History:
Valencia CF will host Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Wednesday, the 2nd of March at 9:30 pm kick-off time at Mestalla as the double-legged tie will be decided with the away goals rule abolished for the semifinal tie.
Valencia CF’s cup history against Athletic Club on home soil sees a positive balance of four wins, one draw and no losses. Their latest cup clash at Mestalla dates back to 1962 when Valencia CF saw off Athletic Club thanks to a Bautista Verdu goal.
Valencia CF will give their all to go through to the Seville final as they did in their Centenary year as this side have some shades of other tough cup winning Valencia CF sides that have shaped the club’s identity and taken root in the Valencia CF DNA.
Both sides come into this second leg on the back of contrasting results at the weekend with Valencia CF taking a morale-boosting win away at RCD Mallorca and a 0-4 away loss to FC Barcelona at the weekend.
Valencia CF will try to book a ticket to the Seville final as they did back in 2019 and 1999 respectively.
